Marseille boasts a wonderful varied natural environment where you can choose between sandy and pebbles beaches.
The most famous resort is Marseille Prado beach, accessible by underground line 1, with its six seaside resorts , but there are also Plages de Corbières, Plage du Prophèt, Plage de la Pointe Rouge, Plage des Catalans, and the numerous islands located only few minutes from Marseille port which offer wonderful sandy beaches and natural bays.
- FRIOUL ARCHIPELAGO: it includes the most famous If Island which hosts a massive 16th century castle, the very same building where the French writer Alexandre Dumas set his masterpiece ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’. The archipelago also includes Ratonneau Island and Pomegues Island with their sandy bays.
- RIOU ARCHIPELAGO: ornithological reserve, access forbidden.
- CALANQUES: enchanted place with wonderful rocky cliffs rising steeply from the crystalline sea and bays. The most famous are Marseilleveyre,Podestat, Sormiou, Morgiou and Port-Miou. They feature small sandy beaches, tourist and fishing ports. The Calanques Massif attracts numerous hikers and nature lovers all year round.
